Nutrition, Food Science and Preparation
- The student will know origins of and prevention of food-borne illness.
- The student will evaluate food choices and make recommendations for improvement.
- The student will know, understand and apply functions of ingredients.
- The student will understand how to modify recipes.
Textiles, Design and Construction
- The student will understand and practice technical reading.
- The student will learn basic sewing fundamentals:
- pattern use
- machine operation
- pressing
- construction
- The student will demonstrate proper safety practices.
- The student will utilize responsibility and time management in completion of a project.
- The student will evaluate product quality.
Family Life and Interpersonal Relationships
- The student will practice strategies for resolving conflicts in relationships.
- The student will understand the importance of empathy and tolerance in society.
- The student will understand the importance of choice on the development of character.
Housing and Design
- The student will understand concepts and skills related to careers in housing and design.
- The student will apply design concepts to living environments.
Child Development and Parenting
- The student will be able to identify the developmental stages of a preschool child (ages 3-5 years):
- physical
- social
- emotional
- intellectual
- moral
- The student will understand the impact of caregiver behavior on a child’s development.
- The student will understand appropriate discipline for child’s developmental stage.
- The student will understand the impact of media on children.
- The student will understand the types of play and its value.
