Child Development and Parenting
- The student will be able to identify developmental stages birth to 2 years:
- physical
- social
- emotional
- intellectual
- The student will apply knowledge of child safety.
- The student will understand the role of babysitter.
- The student will understand the importance of play/toys.
- The student will be aware of child abuse issues.
Family Life and Interpersonal Relationships
- The student will identify the characteristics of nuturant relationships.
- The student will practice strategies for resolving conflicts in relationships.
Textiles, Design and Construction
- The student should know and apply laundry procedures:
- label reading
- sorting
- product selection
- stain removal
- proper machine usage
- storage
- The student understands characteristics of natural and synthetic fibers.
- The student will perform basic hand–sewing fundamentals.
- The student will practice proper and safe use of equipment.
- The student will practice technical reading.
Nutrition, Food Science and Preparation
- The student will know and apply basic kitchen management skills:
- measuring equipment
- abbreviations and equivalents
- food preparation terminology
- kitchen safety and sanitation
- time management and responsibility
- The student will practice technical reading and following directions in sequence.
- The student will be able to use food preparation equipment.
- The student will practice etiquette and hospitality.
- The student will interpret and apply principles of nutrition and understand impact of food selection on health.
