November Newsletter from Principal Wollersheim

October 30, 2017

November is the final full month of fall trimester. Fall trimester will conclude with final exams on Wednesday, November 29 and Thursday, November 30. Now is an excellent time to talk with your son/daughter(s) regarding their academic standing in each of their classes. Schoology is a good tool to help with this conversation. If you need access to your child's Schoology account call Cathy Pollock at 651–423–7564 or e–mail her at cathy.pollock@district196.org. Students should check to make sure they have all of their course work up to date and take care of all new work that comes their way. If you have concerns about your child’s progress in a class, it is the perfect time to have them work with their teacher and/or contact their teacher(s) by email. Encourage your son(s)/daughter(s) to do everything in their power to finish off their courses with their very best effort.

Students will conclude their fall course work by taking final exams on Wednesday, November 29 and Thursday, November 30. During final exam days we use an alternate schedule. Classes meet in two hour blocks with periods 2, 4, 5, and 6 meeting Wednesday, November 29 and periods 1, 3, 5, and 7 meeting Thursday, November 30. Report cards will be posted in ParentVue on Thursday, December 14.

Don't forget Friday, November 3 is a Staff Development Day and there is no school. Teachers will be exploring topics connected to helping all students succeed in class. Teachers will also be looking at data to enhance learning. Also remember that there is a break at the end of the month with no school on Thursday November 23 and Friday, November 24.

Our students continued the tradition of excellence at Rosemount High School throughout the fall season. This past October 9, I presented our 12 National Merit Scholars to our Board of Education! http://www.district196.org/2017/09/13/district-196-seniors-recognized-national-merit-scholarship-program/ Our Marching Band continued its tradition of excellence with outstanding showings throughout the fall season! They have recaptured the Minnesota Grand Championship for the ninth time in the past ten years. In addition, they were the Minnesota State Fair Grand Champion. The Irish Football Team won a share of East Metro Sub District White Championship for a third year in a row going 5–3 in district play! They will play at Minnetonka on Friday at 7:00pm for the section title and a trip to state. In addition, our Irish Swim and Dive Team captured their seventh in a row South Suburban Conference title this fall, and they also qualified for State True Team. The Irish Swim and Dive Team will compete in sections on November 8, 9 and 10 at Hidden Oaks Middle School in Prior Lake. The Irish Boys' and Girls' Soccer Teams ended their seasons by competing for the Section 3AA Soccer Championships. They both lost close hard fought games. Volleyball continues section play this week as they will play East Ridge on Wednesday at 7:00pm at Prior Lake in a section semi-final match. Our Boys' Cross Country Program won the South Suburban Conference title. The Girls' CC Team placed second. Our boys and girls cross country teams competed well in section competition with both teams winning the section and moving on to the state meet this Saturday. On Saturday the girls cc team will run at 10:00am and the boys will run at 11:00am at St. Olaf. The RHS Competition Cheerleaders won the regional division title Saturday at the UCA Ten Thousand Lakes competition. They also earned a bid to compete at UCA Nationals in February. Congratulations to all of our fall teams!

November also marks the start of winter activities. We wish all of our students involved in these activities all the best. I look forward to seeing you at events as we cap off the fall and enter into the winter season. As we begin the final month of the fall trimester, let's all encourage our students to give their very best efforts.

Go Irish!
