December Newsletter from Principal Wollersheim

November 28, 2016

Dear Rosemount High School Community Members,

This week marks the conclusion of fall trimester. Winter trimester will begin one week from today.

Final exams will take place, Wednesday, November 30 and, Thursday, December 1. We are on a revised schedule for those two days. Periods 2, 4, 5, and 6 will meet Wednesday. Periods 1, 3, 5 and 7 will meet Thursday. There is no school for students on Friday, December 2, due to Teacher Workshops. On this day, Teachers will be working on fall trimester grading and getting ready for winter trimester. While it is important that our students study hard in preparation for final tests, it is also important that they get a good night’s sleep and a good breakfast prior to these exams.

The new trimester will start with homeroom at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, December 5, where students receive their finalized schedule. Homeroom assignments may be reviewed by clicking here or can also be found in each student’s SchoolView account. Winter term provides all of our students with a fresh start and a new set of classes. This is an outstanding time of the year for each student to renew their academic focus. It is a good time for adults to have conversations with students that refresh them and energize them for the new term. December is a short month, due to winter break, which starts on Monday December 26, and runs through Tuesday, January 2. The remaining three weeks leading up to winter break offers each student a golden opportunity to start the winter trimester in strong fashion. If your student is in need of academic assistance, this is a perfect time to communicate with their counselor or winter trimester teachers.

There are three important academic processes you should be aware of during the first few weeks of December.

Fall Trimester Report Cards
Fall trimester report cards will be posted in SchoolView on Thursday, December 15. If you do not have a SchoolView account, you may start one by visiting our SchoolView web site at: http://www.district196.org/rhs/schoolview/index.cfm. There is the option for parents to “opt in” to receive a paper report card sent home in the mail. Simply go to the “My Settings” link on the SchoolView homepage to opt-in for a paper report card. The paper report cards sent home look identical to the report cards posted in SchoolView, which can be printed from home.

Fall Trimester Incomplete Grade Make Up
Students who have earned a fall trimester final grade of Incomplete for any of their courses have two weeks to work with their fall trimester teacher(s) to convert their incomplete into a regular grade. The final day of the fall term incomplete make up window is Friday, December 16. Students who earned a fall trimester Incomplete(s) should contact their fall trimester teacher(s) immediately to begin the make up process. Incomplete grades that are not made up are automatically converted to a failing grade.

Winter Trimester EMERGENCY Schedule Review
During the first full week of November, students were allowed to alter their winter trimester schedules with parent permission. Currently, winter trimester schedule changes are not allowed except in emergency situations. Emergency schedule changes will be considered on a case by case basis. Emergency criteria are detailed on page ii of the 2016-2017 Rosemount High School Registration Guide. The guide is posted at http://www.district196.org/rhs/academics/regguide1617/intro.pdf. Students with an emergency situation should stop by the counseling office prior to Friday, December 9.

These next four weeks are full of events and activities for students outside the classroom. The winter sports seasons are already, or will soon be, under way. The Performing Art Center will be full of performances leading up to the winter break. I encourage all of you to support our students as they participate in these activities and events. Check the Rosemount High School web site for event dates, times and details. For updates on fine arts activities and athletic events this winter, please join over 10,000 RHS fans on Facebook at www.facebook.com/RosemountHighSchool or follow @RosemountHS (www.twitter.com/RosemountHS) on Twitter.

These next few weeks will fly by quickly. Please let me or any of the Rosemount High School faculty and staff know if we can be of service to you as we begin the winter trimester. My best wishes to all of you as we finish up the fall and enter the winter trimester.

Go Irish!
