This is me at my desk in the office in the Media Center. As Information Specialist, I direct the Eastview Media Center program. I have a Master of Arts degree in Educational Technology from the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) and a Master of Arts in School Library Science, also from UNI.

Media Center Mission

The Media Center program directly supports the Eastview curriculum by providing professional and support staff who assist teachers and students with technology, research and reading recommendations. In addition, the program provides 24 hour access to a high quality, centralized collection which includes materials in all formats -- print, multimedia and electronic. A primary goal for me as a professional media specialist is to collaborate with teachers to enrich units of instruction with best materials and to integrate information literacy skills.

Research Databases

The online resource collection is available 24 hours a day. The collection includes huge databases of eBooks, magazines, newspaper, and journal articles as well as chapters from books, pamphlets, maps, photographs, web sites, encyclopedia articles, and original material written for secondary students – just to name a few! Remote access information is available in the Eastview student planner. For up-dates and additions, check for the latest information sheet at the main desk in the Media Center.

Books/DVD's

Destiny, the District 196 library program, gives teachers and students access not only to the collection within their building but books and DVD's in all the school libraries. Individual users can login to Destiny to reserve a local copy, make requests from other collections, create personal books lists, renew checkouts and check the status of requests. Destiny also makes available book reviews submitted by students around the district.

Because Destiny includes the WebPath Express module, each search in Destiny also presents relevant, quality web sites. Each web site is annotated and the grade level indicated.
