Through thought, voice, and action, this award winner is a person who believes, promotes, and role models the guiding principles of Eastview High School. The Lightning Award winner is a leader in the classroom, the athletic arena , and throughout the community. The Lightning Award winner believes teamwork is important and understands the resources and talents of a focused group make everything possible.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER AWARD

This is the person who provided the Eastview varsity with the best defense throughout the season. This person may or may not have led his team in steals or other statistical categories. However this person could be counted on game in and game out to guard the other team's top player(s); and most most importnatly understood and demonstrated the philosophy of Lightning team defense and performed the fundamentals of sound team defense on a nightly basis as taught by the coaches.

HUSTLE AWARD

The hustle award is given annually to the varsity player that accumulated the most hustle points for the season.  Hustle points are a statistical measure of a player’s work ethic on the floor during games.  An arbitrary point value is awarded for such categories as floor burns, deflections, charges drawn, steals, rebounds, out of bounds saves, being physical, block shots, etc.

This person could be counted on and trusted to encourage and push his teammates in both practice and games. He continually celebrated his teammates' successes as though they were above any individual success he could attain on his own. This player is not necessarily a varsity player, but plays an important role to the overall morale of the team in general.
