Multimedia Class – District 196 Arts Standards

1. Creation and/or Performance:
• Students become physically and emotionally involved with their projects through the use of a computer and the graphic software for the assignment.
• Students use tools, skills, knowledge and concepts related to the artistic intent to create original artistic expressions using Studio MX.
• Students do written descriptions of their work and also verbal presentations (web pages) that the entire class views.

2. Aesthetic Appreciation
• Student see examples of previous projects to observe, identify, and articulate in artistic terms those which has value and why.
• Students demonstrate appropriate responses to the creative thought by self and others. This is done through presentation and celebration of student works.

3. Essential Arts Fundamentals
• While students are learning the basics of software, they also learn basic elements and principles of art (relative to that software). Basic artistic terms like color, shape, texture, line, balance, repetition, and unity can be applied to web design. In addition, students learn elements that are important for that medium. For example, our web design unit also incorporates elements vital to the fundamentals of a web site such as target web audience, site usability, page design, incoroporating images and graphics, typography, site design, accessibility, using multimedia, and simplicity.

4. Analyze and Interpret an Artistic Endeavor
• Students can analyze and interpret an artistic work using technical perspective, historical perspective, compositional perspective and affective perspective.
• Students can contrast and compare a variety of artistic works using basic principles and vocabulary of artistic analysis. This is done through student examples and historical examples.
• Students are exposed to a variety of artistic works within web design.

5. Historical/Cultural Appreciation
• Students can identify and demonstrate an understanding of historical and cultural contexts in web design (from HTML to Javascript to Flash).
• Students can identify and demonstrate an understanding of political, economic and social influences in digital art. For example, the use of digital software to enhance photographs and video - Did we land on the moon discussion?
• Students can identify and demonstrate an understanding of an art historical and cultural database of knowledge.
