Group Photo Assignment

I started out with a picture of the jazz band that I scanned in from the yearbook. In the original I am in the second row of people off to the left. To remove myself from the picture I used the stamp tool and the area at the top of the photograph to place the background over my picture. Then I used the magic wand tool to select what I knew was background and changed the color to a dark blue. Then by adding areas of the same shade blue I created "gaps" to show legs and other body outlines. After I had the outlines clean and the area where I was covered up I decided to add color to the instruments. I started with the saxophones because they are basically yellow. I selected the instrument with the wand and used mask to remove the fingers from it. Then I used color balance to make them yellow then fooled with the highlights and shadows to make them "shine" a little more. On the tenor saxophonist that is sitting, I made the color a little duller because he is kind of shading it. Next I did the trombones the same way. On the leftmost trombonist I had to recreate some of his instrument because I was blocking pieces of it. I chose to color the two trombones differently because they are different colors normally. After I finished the instruments I decided to color the shirts, which are normally white. I made each section a different matching color. I used the wand and mask again to select just the shirts of people in the particular section I was coloring. Yellow for saxophones, violet for trombones, blue for the woodwinds, pink for the rhythm section, and green for the bassist and Mr. Henry. I then used quickmask to highlight all the faces and color them the same.
