Self Portrait Assignment                 Pic3.PSD (455116 bytes)

To create a good representation of myself I put a lot of thought into it. At first I was going to take my head and put "body" parts on with different things that represent me. Unfortunately I couldn’t find good pictures to make that happen. However, as I was looking I found the background picture of the man ripping his chest open. I chose to use the picture in such a way as to construct a scene of me ripping open my chest and having items that describe me falling out.

I started by placing the background and enlarging it to about 7 by 10 inches. Then I took the picture of a saxophone using the magic wand tool and the quick mask to select it and place it. The saxophone represents my eight years of playing both jazz and concert music and also the other areas in music that I have encountered. The soccer ball shows my love for soccer and the ten years that I have played intramural soccer. The computer I pulled from a Gateway homepage. I use the computer to symbolize the amount of time I spend on computers both in school and out of school. I use computers a lot I have been programming for many years and have purchased and played many more games than I can count. I am also very skilled in both programming and technical aspects of computers. Finally I sell computers and other electronics at OfficeMax where I work. The sword is in the picture for many reasons. The sword ties all my skills together and holds them close to me. The sword also illustrates my physical and mental strength. My physical strength is from running and lifting weights at home. My mental strength in schools of logic and problem solving. Last I took a digital picture of my head that didn’t turn out real well, and put it with the Paste Into command where the picture’s head was. I tried to match the levels of darkness with some success. The photo looks much better in color but looks decent in black and white.
