~Cabaret was, and still remains, one of the most daringly modern of Broadway musicals! First produced in 1966, Cabaret presents a challenge to audiences conditioned to the jolly predictability of musical theatre. Set in pre-Second World War Berlin, the goings on at the Kit Kat Klub appear typical of Berlin nightlife in the late 1920's, but they also serve as a metaphor for the chaotic world outside, and the rise of Nazism. Here is the story of Cliff, a writer and his acquaintance with a Cabaret Performer, Sally Bowles, as well as the relationship of Fraulein Schneider, and Herr Schultz, who are forced to come to terms with the uncertainty of their future together.

It has been a unique opportunity for the Rosemount High School Theatre Arts Program to collaborate on this project with the Theatre Arts Department at Concordia University in St. Paul. Concordia University staged their production of Cabaret in November of 1997 under the direction of Kim A. LaFontaine, Dean of Fine Arts. RHS shared costs with Concordia in the mounting of this joint production, and took advantage of the professional experience and "know how" of our colleagues at Concordia:
