Graduation Information Update

June 1, 2018

The final days of school are important ones for our students. We will graduate 590 seniors on Saturday night, June 2. Our students in grades 9–11 will return for their final days of school next week. Next week will culminate with Final Exams on Wednesday and Thursday. This is a great time to remind students to take care of any unfinished business in any of their spring courses.

For students in grades 9–11, Final Exams will take place for periods 2, 4, 5, and 6 on Wednesday, June 6 and periods 1, 3, 5 and 7 on Thursday, June 7. Please be sure to talk to your students about these exams. Please check with them to make sure they are prepared. Send them to school with a good night’s sleep and be sure to serve them breakfast on final exam days. Seniors do not have school next week, after graduation, and are NOT required to take final exams. Seniors may choose to take final exams if they wish. Seniors interested in taking final exams should notify their teacher(s) in advance.

Next week students may also be alerted by teachers about summer assignments required for their courses next fall. The Summer Programs link on the RHS homepage at public.district196.org/rhs leads to this information. The Summer Programs webpage also lists information about summer camps, a college boot camp and a great selection of titles for summer reading. Rosemount High School recommends that students in all grades read for pleasure over the summer. Students have access to over 900 eBooks giving them the opportunity to choose a book that aligns with their interests.

Graduation will take place on Saturday, June 2, at 7:30 p.m. at Mariucci Arena on the University of Minnesota's Twin Cities Campus. No tickets are required for guests. Important information regarding graduation is listed below at the end of this letter.

Many seniors will be receiving notification from their attending college to remind them to send final transcripts. Seniors requested final transcripts when they completed Senior Surveys earlier in May. The Counseling Office will send out all official, final transcripts by the end of June. There is no need to request these again, unless your attending college has changed.

As we wrap up this school year, I want to thank the entire Rosemount High School Community for your support of our students and school. It has been an honor to serve as principal. You have all contributed to and built upon the many great traditions of this school and community!

On behalf of the entire Rosemount High School faculty and staff, I wish each of you nothing but the very best during the summer months!

A senior student cook out will take place following rehearsal. The school day will end for our senior students following the rehearsal and social.

Students must report to the Graduation Ceremony no later than 6:00 PM on Saturday, June 2. Seniors are asked to board the busses in front of the school. This year the ceremony is at Mariucci Arena on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus. There will be unlimited seating. Gates to Mariucci will open at 6:30.

Note that we have been informed by the Minnesota Department of Transportation that 345W will be closed on Saturday from Crosstown Highway (MN 62) to I94, so plan your route accordingly.

The ceremony will be broadcast live via the internet at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 2nd. The link to the broadcast can be found under Featured Links on the right hand side of the RHS web page (public.district196.org/rhs).

Diplomas are issued immediately following the ceremony on the bus ride home. Please make sure all fines are paid and course requirements are met.

The parent–sponsored Senior Graduation Party will be held from 10:30 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. at Rosemount High School. The ticket cost is $100 per graduate the night of the party for those who have not pre-purchased their ticket. Students who have purchased tickets will have their party T-shirt distributed at graduation rehearsal. Students are encouraged to wear their party T-shirt at the party. A limited number of shirts will be available for students who purchase tickets the night of the party. If you have any questions please contact Trisha Nelson–Chetek at trishanc1216@gmail.com . The senior graduation party has been conducted by parents of seniors for the past thirty five years. Every year it has been a chemical-free opportunity for young people to celebrate the joy of graduation in an environment that leaves parents at ease. We encourage you to consider this opportunity for your graduate.

Families/Friends of District 196 Class of 2018 Graduates,
The District 196 Communications Department created a Facebook campaign #196Grads for people to share photos of their graduates and the commencement ceremonies. District 196 would love to see lots of photos of graduates from all of our schools.
