November Newsletter from Principal Wollersheim

October 31, 2016

Dear Rosemount High School Community Members,

November is the final full month of fall trimester. Fall trimester will conclude with final exams on Wednesday, November 30 and Thursday, December 1. Now is an excellent time to talk with your son/daughter(s) regarding their academic standing in each of their classes. SchoolView is a good tool to help with this conversation. If you need a SchoolView Account visit www.district196.org/rhs/schoolview/. Students should check to make sure they have all of their course work up to date and take care of all new work that comes their way. If you have concerns about your child’s progress in a class, it is the perfect time to have them work with their teacher and/or contact their teacher(s) by email. Encourage your son(s)/daughter(s) to do everything in their power to finish off their courses with their very best effort.

Students will conclude their fall course work by taking final exams on Wednesday, November 30 and Thursday, December 1. During final exam days we use an alternate schedule. Classes meet in two hour blocks with periods 2, 4, 5, and 6 meeting Wednesday, November 30 and periods 1, 3, 5, and 7 meeting Thursday, December 1. Report cards will be posted in SchoolView on Thursday, December 15. Rosemount High School does not print hard copy report cards. Report Cards are posted in SchoolView. Parents who wish to have a hard copy report card mailed to them may request this using an “opt in” feature under the “My Settings” link in SchoolView.

Don’t forget Friday, November 4 is a Staff Development Day and there is no school. Teachers will be exploring topics connected to helping all students succeed in class. Teachers will also continue to sharpen their skills using technology to enhance learning. Also remember that there is a break at the end of the month with no school on Thursday November 24 and Friday, November 25.

Our students continued the tradition of excellence at Rosemount High School throughout the fall season. This past October 10, I presented our 9 National Merit Scholars to our Board of Education! www.district196.org/District/Departments/Communications/FullNewsRelease Our Marching Band continued its tradition of excellence with outstanding showings throughout the fall season! They have recaptured the Minnesota Grand Championship for the ninth time in the past ten years. In addition, they were the Minnesota State Fair Grand Champion (View Article).

The Irish Football Team won a share of East Metro Sub District White Championship for a second year in a row going 7-1 in district play! In addition, our Irish Swim and Dive Team captured their third in a row South Suburban Conference title this fall, and they also qualified for State True Team. The girls’ soccer team plays at US Bank Stadium this week for the state semi-final and hopefully the state championship on Thursday. Our girl’s tennis team had one individual advance to the third place match in sections. Volleyball continues section play this week as they will play Eagan in a section semi-final match this week. Our boys and girls cross country teams competed well in section competition with the boy’s winning the section and moving on to the state meet this Saturday. The girls cc team ran their best times of the year but finished third, two points from going to state. The RHS Competition Cheerleaders won their regional last week and have qualified for nationals in February. Congratulations to all of our fall teams!

November also marks the start of winter activities. We wish all of our students involved in these activities all the best. I look forward to seeing you at events as we cap off the fall and enter into the winter season. As we begin the final month of the fall trimester, let’s all encourage our students to give their very best efforts.

Go Irish!
