I have been teaching French (and also formerly Spanish) at Rosemount High School for the past 25 years except while on an extended leave of absence (maternity). From 1994-2001, I was known as Ms. Boyce. I am teaching French I (2 sections - periods 2 & 7), French II (1 section - period 4) and French III (2 sections - periods 1 & 5) during the '18-'19 academic year.

My B.A. is from the College of St. Catherine (now known as St. Catherine University) in French and Spanish with a secondary education concentration (1994). During my time at St. Kate's, I spent a semester studying at the Université de Haute Bretagne-Rennes II in northwestern France. I did an internship teaching CE1 (1st grade) at Jean-Zay Elementary School during the semester. I received my M.A. in Education: Learning Technology from the University of St. Thomas (1995). My K-12 school administration licensure was completed in 1999 through St. Mary's University with my 200 internship hours done at Rosemount High School. I have been active in the American Association of Teachers of French, Minnesota Chapter having served as coordinator of their annual statewide speaking contest for 14 years and currently am still part of the contest committee as co-coordinator working with scheduling and awards (for the past 9 years).

I have been married for 17 years and have two sons -- ages 12 & 14. We live in the school district and my sons are in 7th & 9th grade within the district. I enjoy reading novels, music, board games, crosswords & Sudoku puzzles, trivia & game shows, thrift store shopping, fitness walking and international travel. I also like creating fun, educational videos on my YouTube channel to help my students learn grammar and vocabulary. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC75KG8ATMKaM3GiuDdEv1Ug/videos

My passions relating to the French classroom include international music and friendships. All levels will be introduced to a few international music videos and the French III students will also do a music project (all in French) and also have the pleasure of corresponding with high school students in France. The main project for the French I students will be choosing a francophone topic of interest to them about which they will do a mini-report for the class (in English!). French II students will learn more about food/eating habits in France and late in the year will prepare a simple, but authentic French meal for friends and/or family with a presentation both in French and English. (alternate project available) All levels will have the opportunity to host a French student in their home in February-March or during the summers (more info will be provided as the opportunities near).

In the past, I have coached Odyssey of the Mind, Destination Imagination, quiz bowl & knowledge bowl. Currently I serve as co-advisor for the French Honor Society (which is available for students in French III and above who can maintain B+ averages both in French and as a cumulative GPA)

In October of 2016, I was named "French Teacher of the Year" by the Minnesota Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of French at a ceremony held at Macalester College in St. Paul.
