TriBolt English 9, is one of the freshmen courses that will begin your four-year journey at Eastview High School. Your 180-day excursion, in English, will allow you to become better writers, readers, listeners and speakers. Hopefully, when your freshmen year ends, you will also discover things about yourself that you never knew before.

 
Unit One: Introduction to Eastview High School
In the first unit the objective is to provide activities in English that will allow the students to feel comfortable at EVHS with new classmates, teachers, and expectations.
Unit Two: To Kill a Mockingbird
Students will read and discuss one of the most memorable novels in high school.
               Unit Three: Persuasive Speech
The students will prepare and present a 3-5 minute persuasive speech on a topic of their choice.
               Unit Four: Short Stories
The students will be introduced to the imaginative world of storytelling. During the unit the students will learn the elements of short stories and will read four stories: The Sniper, The Most Dangerous Game, The Birds, and the Scarlet Ibis.
               Unit Five: Interdisciplinary Project: The National Park Project
During this unit the freshmen will learn how to prepare a works cited page, research a current topic concerning America’s National Parks, and write a short research paper.
                 Unit Five: Mythology
This is one of the student’s favorite units as they read and learn about the Greek gods and goddesses. All the heavyweights of mythology are here including: Zeus, Poseidon, Hercules, Apollo, Athena, Athena, Aphrodite, Hera, and many more. The students, in groups of four, will read Homer’s: The Odyssey. At the end of the unit the students will create and write their own myth.
                 Practice for State Writing Assessment
The students will get a chance to practice (with feedback) their writing before they have to take the state’s writing assessment in their sophomore year.
                 State Graduation Standard
The freshmen, in order to successfully complete the graduation will read a series of articles on a current topic and determine fact/opinion/ and bias.
                 Unit Six: Romeo and Juliet
A true student favorite. The tale of two star crossed lovers and their five days together is always an enjoyable event in English. The entire play will be acted out in class. Shakespeare will never be the same after the conclusion of this unit.

All the units and activities in English are designed to provide opportunities for the students to practice their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills and to improve upon all of them.

It is my hope that all my students have an enjoyable 180-day journey in English filled with success.
