1. What is the Lightyear?

Lightyear is Eastview High School's award-winning yearbook. Taking second place in the state of Minnesota, Journalism Educators of America recognized Lightyear with an All-State Silver Award in 2004-2005. Also that year, the Minnesota High School Press Association presented a Gold Medallion Award for first place in photography to Editor Siri Dove.

Over 200 full color pages, Lightyear is published and delivered to students in June. Designed and produced by students involved in our Yearbook Class (during the school day), and in our after school co-curricular club, our Eastview annual is created as these two groups work together to complete their pages, deadline by deadline, until mid-March.

This hard-bound book is then sent out to be printed, so it will be ready to deliver to students by the last week of school. Two more items complete each Yearbook order: a Spring Supplement, and a CD Yearbook. These are delivered to students at the beginning of the next school year.

As a companion to this "big book", a small soft-bound Spring Supplement (containing Spring sports, Prom, Graduation, Top 10 Students and more) is produced during May. It has a strip of adhesive so it can be inserted into the "big book" and anchored in place. Printed over the summer, the Spring Supplement is then delivered (at a Homeroom before 1st Hour on the first day of the new school year) to all students who had purchased yearbooks.

As a FREE Bonus, your yearbook order also includes a CD Yearbook. This is a dynamic electronic record of the students, events and activities throughout the year created by Eastview's Multimedia students. This CD is distributed during lunch by Multimedia class members during the first few weeks of school in September.

4. Ooops! I forgot to order a yearbook... how late can I still buy one?

Any extra books will be available for students to purchase in the main office after school on the last Monday in June before school is out. Although a very limited number of extra books will be on sale, the rule is "first come, first served". When they're gone, they're gone, and we can't guarantee that there will be enough for everyone who would like to buy at the last minute.

The best way to make sure you get a Yearbook is to order one early in the school year. Your early order helps the yearbook staff to determine the right number of books we should order from the printer as well. Go to the main office or click on Yearbook Order Form for an order form. Print out the form and fill in the information. Return your order to the main office.

5. When and how will I get my yearbook?

Your Yearbook order actually includes the following 3 items:

  • The hard-bound "big book", the Lightyear: This is delivered to students at an end-of-the-day homeroom the last Friday before school gets out for the summer in June. At the start of the next school year in September, you will receive the rest of your order.
  • The soft-bound Spring Supplement: This addition to the "big book" includes Graduation, Prom, Spring Sports, and more. It is delivered to students at a beginning-of-the-day homeroom on the first day of school in September, and will be mailed to newly graduated seniors during the summer.
  • The Yearbook CD -- a FREE bonus! This electronic overview of the school year is handed out to students by the Multimedia classes during lunch the first few weeks of school.

If you missed homeroom, or did not get part of your order, please contact Ms. Winslow in the main office. She will assist you in getting the items you need.

6. What if the yearbook I receive in homeroom is damaged or has a printing error, like missing pages?

You can exchange a damaged book for a new one. It is important to carefully look over your Yearbook when you get it, to make sure there is no problem. You will also want to wait to have your friends sign the book until you know it is OK. After all those who ordered books have been given their copy, any extra books will be sold to students on a first come, first served basis (including books with minor damage, if a student would rather have that book than miss out).

7. How are individual class pictures handled at Eastview High School?

  • Underclassmen - Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors
    • Formal Class Pictures for Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors are featured in the Eastview High School Yearbook each year. Studio photos (standard "head shot" pictures of students) will be taken at Eastview of Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors, so it is NOT necessary for families to submit class pictures for students in grades 9, 10, and 11. Photo packages may also be purchased from the school-contracted photographer, LifeTouch Photography Studio, if families wish to do so.
    • Picture Day is in September, followed by Retake Day in October. Watch the Eastview announcements for more information on these important school events.
  • Upperclassmen - Seniors usually furnish an individual photo to the Yearbook.
    • Go to the SENIORS page for more information.
    • Senior Portraits: Final Deadline for submission is November 3.
